Save $500 on Epson Printer + Get $1,525 Label Gift CardThe label printer market is set to grow by 4.2% in the next 10 years, and it’s not hard to see why. With more and more people choosing to work from home, along with the already growing number of home-based businesses, demand for label makers is on the rise. But with growth in the market comes growth in choice.

It’s easy to get distracted by the sheer number of label printers available. That’s why we’ve done the hard work for you. Read on to find out the best printer for small businesses.

Best Label Printer for Barcodes

So, what are the main uses for a label printer used by a small business? As you can imagine, the printers are very versatile in their uses, but the main ones tend to be:

  • Shipping labels
  • Organization labels (e.g. for storage)
  • Banners and signs
  • Name tags
  • Address labels
  • Barcodes

Something they don’t tell you before you start your own business is just how many barcodes you’re going to have to deal with! Of course, the more the merrier – more barcodes means more sales, but wow they can make your eyes go funny.

That’s why it’s so important to ensure the printer you have is fit for purpose and – crucially – stops you from straining your eyes checking if it’s printing properly!

That’s where we come in. We have done the research so you don’t have to. Here we have compiled a collection of the best label printers for barcode printing.

Two of the most important things when it comes to printing barcodes are ensuring the labels aren’t smudged and ensuring it can print hundreds of labels per minute, and that’s exactly what our first option is great for:

The Dymo LabelWriter 550 is a super high-speed option and prints onto thermal paper, however, the downside is that it is only compatible with its own-brand paper. While it does work with both Mac and Windows, it’s not wireless. This option is a great choice if you work with Dymo a lot and won’t be needing a portable option!

The best option for barcode printing in our opinion is the Rollo Label Printer. With its integrated shipping platform, a wide variety of uses (not just barcodes!), and compatibility with any label paper, this secured the win for us!

Best Label Printer for Color

As mentioned above, barcodes are not the only thing a small business needs a label printer for, and lots of those other reasons will require something a lot of the barcode-specific ones won’t have: color! Many labels and stickers will be used for advertising and marketing and we all know how color gets the attention of customers!

So, there are a few extra aspects that need to be considered when buying a color printer, and the big one is which type of paper you want to go for. This is relevant as different printers are compatible with different types of paper. Barcode printers generally use thermal printing which doesn’t use ink – this is great because it lowers the chances of smudges on the final product, but the downside of this is that the colors they produce tend to be less vibrant. For this reason, we suggest going for inkjet printers!

Our research has led us to two main options:

First, is the Primera LX500. This is a great price, with high durability, and the setup is very simple and easy! Another great thing about this choice is the great quality printing. Unfortunately, it is a little ink-thirsty and the cartridges have the tendency to malfunction.

That’s why the top stop has to go to the Epson CW-C4000! The print speed is nothing short of outstanding, with a wide range of connectivity options, and all things considered, the price is very reasonable. In fact, the only downside we could find was that the Wi-Fi connection was sometimes a little unstable, but trust us – that’s easy to overlook with a printer this good.

Best Label Printer for Small Businesses

We understand that as a small business, you might not be in the position to have a different printer for each requirement, and that’s why we’ve also looked into the best all-round label printers. Perfect for home-based businesses!

Up first is the Phomemo M200 Label Maker, which – quite honestly – is as cute as a label printer could get. It’s a small, portable printer with the ability to create unique designs, even while you’re out and about. It’s hand-held, prints fast, and prints color. And while some fonts do come out a bit blurry, it’s perfect if your printing needs are predominantly designs and not words!

We left the best until last though, and our final choice really is the best of the bunch! From the same family as the previous one, the Phomemo M110 Label Maker is like its older, cooler sister. While still a smaller unit, this printer boasts wireless and Bluetooth connections, the printing quality is high, and it also works for barcodes. So it really is an all-round winner!
