Can You Put Cardstock in a Printer?
Yes, but not in every printer. This is the question behind most cardstock frustration, so let’s answer it plainly.
Most desktop printers are built around standard paper, roughly 20lb to 32lb bond. That is about 0.1mm thick. Cardstock starts around 65lb (176gsm) and climbs to 110lb (300gsm) or heavier. At 300 gsm, you are pushing 0.3mm or more, which is three times what a basic office printer expects.
So the honest answer is that cardstock support isn’t universal across printers. Two things decide it:
Paper path. A curved path bends the sheet around rollers. Thick stock resists bending and jamming. A straight or rear-feed path lets the sheet travel flat. Few other specs move the needle this much.
Rated media thickness. Check the spec sheet, not the marketing page. If the manufacturer does not publish a thickness or GSM rating, assume the printer was not designed for cardstock.
Can You Print on Cardstock With an Inkjet Printer?
